4Runner

2019 Toyota 4Runner Nightshade Edition

A new Limited Nightshade Edition is offered, with black chrome accents, black door handles and 20-inch black alloy 6-spoke wheels. We suggest you don't eat it.

86

2019 Toyota 86 TRD

A new TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Special Edition is offered. It features aggressive aerodynamic ground effects, including a front air dam with a large splitter. New 18-inch wheels (17-inch were previously the only wheels offered on 86), Brembo brakes (12.8" front/12.4" rear) and SACHS performance dampers (shocks) round out the package. The full extent of changes to the engine consist of a TRD performance exhaust system; horsepower remains unchanged. A tri-color stripe running along the side lets everyone know you drive a TRD (Toyota says, please don't make this an acronym, just pronounce each letter.). The TRD Special Edition only comes with a 6-speed manual transmission.

2019 Toyota 86 TRD Interior

Inside, the 86 TRD Special Edition gets unique black and red seats, re seatbelts, red stitching on its leather-covered steering wheel, leather shift boot, dash cover and door panels. Unlike the GT, the TRD Special Edition doesn't have heated front seats.

Otherwise, TRD models get the same equipment as the 86 GT, including a full aerodynamic belly pan, dual zone automatic climate control, heated mirrors, Smart Key System and a 4.2" Multi-Information Display with oil temperature, voltmeter gauges and a lap timing system.

Avalon

2019 Toyota Avalon

Like the Camry was all-new for 2018, the Avalon gets its turn this year.

Both of the Avalon's engines get bumps in power: the V6 gains direct fuel injection and 33 more horsepower for 301 total. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Hybrid also gets direct fuel injection and 15 horsepower total system power.

The V6 upgrades from a 6-speed automatic to an 8-speed. The Hybrid remains a CVT (continuously-variable).

The Avalon Touring gets adaptive shock absorbers that electronically adjust on the fly to smooth out the ride and tighten up for corners, a first for the Avalon.

Since Toyota Safety Sense was already standard on the Avalon, Toyota couldn't cram much more safety into it for 2019. They did make the Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Warning systems standard on all models. Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is also a new feature, available on Limited and Touring, it can brake the car automatically when reversing if it detects something coming from the sides. Limited and Touring get new adaptive cornering lights that help see better in corners.

Outside Avalon rides on a two-inch longer wheelbase: this improves ride and makes for more room on the inside. The Avalon is an inch lower than last year. On the inside an inch more rear legroom and almost an inch more front shoulder room are about the only changes. Hybrid models no longer take a hit in trunk space: V6 and Hybrid both have 16.1 cubic feet of cargo volume.

The rain-sensing wipers are no longer offered on Avalon, only variable intermittent.

C-HR

2019 Toyota C-HR

The C-HR changes its lineup. The C-HR XLE and XLE Premium are gone, replaced by LE, XLE and Limited.

The new Limited model has rain-sensitive wipers, a first for the C-HR. The new LE entry-level model comes with smaller, new tires for the year: 215/60R17.

Camry

2019 Toyota Camry

Safety Connect is standard on all models, a telematics system that will automatically call for help if airbags deploy, help locate a stolen car or call for roadside assistance. Safety Connect uses its own signal, so it doesn't depend on a customer's cell phone.

The standard Entune multimedia system in Camry now includes the Alexa personal assistant by Amazon.

Corolla

2019 Toyota Corolla

No changes for 2019. The Corolla will be updated significantly for the 2020 model year and will include a new Hybrid model. See a preview here, at the LA Auto Show.

Corolla Hatchback

2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

The all-new Corolla Hatchback replaces the Corolla iM, which was a leftover from the defunct Scion division. Gone is the anemic 1.8-liter engine, replaced by a 2.0-liter with direct fuel injection and 31 more horsepower (168 HP) and 46 more pound-feet of torque (172 lbs.-ft.). A 6-speed manual and a CVT are still the transmissions offered. #SavetheManuals Zero-to-60 MPH is down by about a second and a half. Nice.

Toyota Safety Sense was already standard on the iM, including forward collision warning, autonomous braking, lane departure warning and automatic high beams. In the new Corolla Hatchback, blind spot warning is now offered and adaptive Radar Cruise Control is now available and it is standard. Safety Connect® is standard on all models and includes a built in cellular transceiver that can call for help if it detects an airbag deployment and can even help police locate your car if it's stolen.

The wheelbase is longer on the C.H., meaning ride and handling should improve. Interior space actually goes down in most measures.

The Corolla Hatchback is available in two trims: SE and XSE. Automatic climate control is standard on both; dual zone a/c and rear climate vents come on the XSE. The XSE also gets a 10-way power driver's seat and heated seats for the driver and front passenger.

Highlander

2019 Toyota Highlander Nightshade

Like 4Runner, Nightshade Edition will be available. Other models get a little more chrome.

Land Cruiser

2019 Toyota Land Cruiser

No changes.

Mirai

Toyota Mirai

Gets a new marketing campaign: "Real Power." No changes to the actual fuel-cell car itself.

Prius

2019 Toyota Prius

The Prius gets a significant refresh for 2019 with much simpler, smoother sheet metal. The grille, headlights, taillights, wheels and bumpers are all new. Inside new materials give a richer appearance: piano black accents all around, but also to more USB ports and a larger available wireless charging tray for big phones. A heated steering wheel will finally be available, standard on XLE and Limited.

The trim levels are re-named: gone are the cryptic "Two," "Three," etc. L Eco, LE, XLE and Limited will replace them.

The biggest news, though is All-Wheel Drive. Via a rear electric motor, the new Prius will offer optional AWD-e and still get 52 miles per gallon in the city. Fuel mileage remains the same for front-wheel drive models. AWD-e models will use Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries to resist cold temperatures better. The trunk gets a little larger, too, now rated at 27.4 cubic feet with the rear seats up, lower in AWD-e models.

On the safety front, adaptive headlights that swivel side to side in corners will now be offered, standard on Limited and optional on XLE.

Prius Prime

2019 Toyota Prius Prime

No changes.

Prius c

2019 Toyota Prius c

The Prius c now comes in two flavors, "L" and "LE," instead of four, "One," "Two," "Three," and "Four." A split 60/40 folding rear seat, cruise control, driver's armrest and storage console are now standard. 16 inch wheels and heated seats are no longer offered.

Rav4

2019 Toyota Rav4 at 2018 NYAS

All new sheet metal give the Rav4 a meaner, more aggressive look and optional two-tone paint via a white roof.

Underneath, the standard engine gets a boost from direct fuel injection, borrowing the engine from the new Camry. Horsepower leaps 27 to 203. The Rav4 Hybrid increases by 25 to 219. The gasoline engine gains two cogs and now rides with an eight-speed automatic. Fuel mileage is up significantly wither way, with the Hybrid rated at 41 city/37 highway. The Rav4 Hybrid will be out by Spring.

Brakes are larger for 2019, with 12-inch front rotors, more stopping power is standard on Rav4 than last year's larger available brakes.

Dimensionally the 2019 Rav4 rides on a wheelbase that is more than an inch longer. Vehicle height is up by over an inch. Overall length contracts by at least two inches, but rear legroom is up a little, rear head room is more than half an inch greater and shoulder room is better for front and rear passengers. Cargo room is marginally, but those who opt for the Hybrid won't see any difference, cargo room is the same as on conventional gasoline models.

Safety Equipment is still generous, with forward collision warning, automatic braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams and eight airbags standard. Blind spot warning and rear cross-path warning are now available on all models, and automatic rear braking is offered on higher trims.

Sequoia

2019 Toyota Sequoia

No changes.

Sienna

2019 Toyota Sienna

Toyota Connected Services, including Safety Connect are now also standard on Sienna L model. Sienna SE now offers the Smart Key System and rear parking sonar. Sienna LE now offers the Smart Key System, blind spot monitoring and rear cross path warning.

Tacoma

2019 Toyota Tacoma

TRD Pro model gets a snorkel for the engine to breath air at about roof height, kevlar reinforced tires and a standard navigation system.

Tundra

2019 Toyota Tundra

TRD Sport becomes TRD Pro.

Yaris

2019 Toyota Yaris

The Yaris iA sedan is now simply called the "Yaris." The original Yaris is now the "Yaris Liftback," but is discontinued for 2019.l

The Yaris Sedan is now available in three different trim levels: L, LE and XLE. The Yaris L has less standard equipment than the previous 1-model Yaris iA and starts out hundreds less. Yaris XLE gains such high-end features as rain-sensitive wipers, LED headlights, automatic headlights, and automatic climate control.

A 6-speed manual is the only transmission on Yaris L and LE; a 6-speed automatic is only available and standard on XLE.
