Elantra
The new, more powerful Elantra N is coming and will be offered with a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. With 276 horsepower it squeaks by the Veloster N by 1 pony, but if you order the 8-speed DSG you get a steering wheel button to press for a temporary extra 10 horsepower. It also features 14.2-inch front and 12.4-inch rear brake rotors and 245/35R19 performance tires. An electronic limited-slip differential helps put the power down to the front wheels. Electronically controlled shock absorbers help control ride and handling.
Ioniq
Pure electric version discontinued as we wait for the new Ioniq 5. No changes to hybrid or plug-in hybrid.
Ioniq 5
On sale now, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a full-electric with a range of 220 to 303 miles. It offers 167 horsepower and rear-wheel drive, 225 horsepower and rear-wheel drive or 320 horsepower with dual-motor all-wheel drive. Hyundai fully intends the Ioniq 5 to telegraph its future design and technology trends, with sleek, angular styling that dosn't try to ape internal combustion design (no faux radiators). From retractable door handles to fully automated parking, even by remote control, the Ioniq 5 is unapologetically advanced.
The design is basically a 5-door crossover, or a wagon. Inside and out, though, is strikingly clean, ultra-modern and attractive. Maybe the only wrong note are the strakes near the bottom of the doors and the optional 20-inch wheels are too busy (both shown above). Some may find the black panel between the leading edge of the hood and the front bumper bleak, but it gives good balance.
Standard safety features are complete: Rear park distance warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (auto braking), forward collision warning, lane departure warning, Lane Keep Assist, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, driver attention warning, Safe Exit Assist (warns of approaching cars from behind when parked), and Rear Occupant Alert. Front park distance warning, rear automatic braking, surround vision and Remote Parking Assist are available.
Kona
A rear seat reminder system and engine idle-stop prgram are both new, standard features.
Nexo
A larger instrument panel digital gauge cluster is fitted: 10.25 inches.
Palisade
Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance, turn signal repeaters in the side mirrors, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist and Safe Exit Assist are all now standard.
Santa Cruz
An entirely new pickup truck is a rare thing, but it finally happened over at Hyundai. Based on the similarly named Santa Fe, the Santa Cruz is more of a crossover pickup, more Dodge Rampage than Dodge Ram.
It shares the Santa Fe's 2.5-liter engine in both normally aspirated and turbocharged guise (191 and 281 horsepower, respectively), as well st the 8-speed automatic transmissions and optional all-wheel drive systems. The standard 12.8-inch front brakes carry over, but, due to its cargo-carrying mission, the Cruz gets larger 12.8-inch) rear brakes than the Fe.
The largest change to the chassis is the stretch in the wheelbase, almost ten inches, in order to get a 52-inch bed behind a second row of seating. The market for two or three-seat pickups seems to have vanished. The Santa Cruz gets two full seating rows, full rear doors, and five 3-point seatbelts.
The 52-inch bed isn't where the Cruz's capacity for work ends. Standard models can two 2000 pounds and the 2.5 turbo can tow 3500. Payload is a highly useable 1411 pounds. Optional roof rails can carry up to 220 pounds (which must be deducted from 1411).
Equipment levels are good: power windows, power locks, power mirrors, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, Rear Occupant Alert, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Driver Attention Warning are all standard.
The Santa Cruz was planned quite a while back, but its final arrival was delayed by COVID-19.
Santa Fe
Blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Assist will all be standard on all models after August production.
Calligraphy models no longer offer the 19-inch wheels; twenty-inch wheels are standard on all Santa Fe Calligraphy.
Sonata
The Sonata N Line offers a new Night Edition.
Technology Package is now standard on SEL Plus.
Sonata Limited adds Dynamic Voice Recognition with added commands and natural voice recognition capabilities Dynamic Voice Control is now standard on Sonata Hybrid Limited.
Rear seat mounted side airbags are now standard.
Tucson
2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid at 2021 LA Auto Show
All-new for 2022, the Tucson is now offered in hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, as well. Hyundai's new corporate 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is the standard engine, putting out 187 horsepower (26 more than the 2.0 standard in the ‘21 and 6 more than the 2.4-liter optional engine). A 1.6-liter turbocharged version powering both the hybrid and plug-in versions makes 226 and 261 horsepower, respectively, including both gasoline power and electric motor assistance. The plug-in variant can travel for 33 miles on its 90-horsepower electric motor, before firing up the turbo engine. By far the hybrid versions are the quickest, by over two seconds to 60 MPH.

The hybrid versions put an even larger gap between the 2022 and the 2021, with MPG as high as 38 city and 38 highway, running on gasoline!
The 2022 Tucson has a significantly longer wheelbase: 108.5 versus 105.1 inches. Overall length is up by almost six inches. Track width (distance between wheels) is up by some fractions of an inch and overall width is too. Even overall height is over half an inch bigger for 2022. On the inside cargo capacity is up a lot: 38.7 vs. 31 cubic feet. Passenger space is up by a full six cubic feet with increases in headroom, legroom, and shoulder room.
Safety Features
The 2022 Tucson rates the Top Safety Pick Plus from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Rear Occupant Alert helps make drivers remember to check the back seat and not leave children in the Tucson; it is a new feature for 2022, standard on all models. Reverse Collision-Avoidance Assist, another feature designed for the safety of children, is new and standard on Tucson Limited; it uses the rear park sensors and will apply the brakes automatically to prevent backing into someone or something.
Veloster
All the lesser Velosters are discontinued, leaving only the mighty Veloster N.
Venue
An engine immobilizer security system is now standard. The Premium Package previously available on SEL is discontinued. Venue Denim is renamed Venue Limited.
