Curtain airbags to protect the head are now standard on all models: before they were an option. IntelliLink is now available to allow easy, hands-free smart phone access. Navigation now includes SiriusXM NAVTraffic to help warn of and direct around traffic snarls.

Also for 2016, the eight-speed automatic transmission is now standard on SLT with the 5.3 V8 after starting out in Denali last year. Automatic high beam headlights (Intellibeam) has been added to the Enhanced Driver Alert Package, available on Regular Cab SLE models and SLT and Denali models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now supported in available sound systems. Wireless charging of compatible devices and a built-in Wi-Fi network are now optional. New "Elevation Edition" offers 20-inch wheels, heated power mirrors, locking differential, etc. 1500 models can be delivered with the pickup box deleted, allowing the addition of custom beds and equipment on a lighter truck. The tailgate can now be locked and unlocked with the optional keyless remote.

A CD player is no longer offered. Satellite radio is no longer standard on SL. Backup camera is standard on all models, now. Side Blind Zone alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are now optional on SLE and SLT as well as still standard on Denali.
A cap-less fuel filler makes gassing up easier. Automatic high-beam control is now offered and Lane Keep Assist is included in the Enhanced Driver Alert Package. The hands-free (kick your foot) power lift gate from the 2015 Denali is also now standard on the SLT. Apple CarPlay added to standard IntelliLink.
